Informational Report

Does your assignment ask you to research or learn about something and then inform readers about it?

If your assignment asks you simply to inform readers about a subject, without really trying to persuade readers of anything, "Informational Report" might be for you.

"Informational Report" can help you ...
  • · Describe the history of your subject.
  • · Explain any unfamiliar or confusing aspects of your subject.
  • · Describe current public opinion about your subject.
  • · Identify problems or controversies related to your subject, and possible solutions to them.
  • · Consider the future impacts your subject might have.
If the above list sounds like your assignment prompt, consider using this session. Many of the items on the list are optional and flexible, allowing you to customize your session to fit your paper's needs.

Note: Many college writing assignments ask you to persuade or to argue. Look in your assignment prompt for words like "argue," "persuade," "convince," "evaluate," "propose" -- if you see those sorts of words, you should probably be using a different session, like "Argument," "Proposing a Solution," or "Review."
