Memoir
A memoir is defined as a personal record or autobiography. In Student Writing Coach's Memoir, you will write about a single event or ongoing experience that changed your life and shaped you into who you are now. What's involved?
- Student Writing Coach first asks a student to describe his or her life before the chosen event or experience occurred.
- Students will then write a detailed account of the event or experience itself.
- Student Writing Coach then asks students to discuss both the short- and long-term effects the event or experience had on their lives.
- The last two sets in the session will help students write a conclusion and introduction.
Is SWC's Memoir right for you?
- Does your assignment ask you to discuss an event or experience from your own life?
- Does your assignment ask you to talk about a single occurrence ?
- Does your assignment use words such as recall, remember, reminisce, personal, you, yourself, life-changing?
Yes to all three?
Memoir is probably right for you.
No to any?
If your assignment is asking you to write about an event but is not asking you to write in the first-person (meaning you would use the words I, me, we, etc.), then take a look at Report.
If your assignment is asking you to write from the first-person perspective but does not ask you to write about a life-changing occurrence, then consider Review - Live subject or Review - Recorded subject.
